St Vincent’s Hospital and The University of Melbourne are offering a week-long residency program for artists who are interested in applying a medical science pathway to their art practice. The aim of the residency is research based. Artists will be offered access to medical, scientific and historical material through the Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology, the Medical History Museum and the Dental Museum at The University of Melbourne. At St Vincent’s access will be given to the Archives and Heritage Department, the Art Collection and the Medical Imaging Facility with some time allocated to a St Vincent’s Medical Researcher.
We anticipate that access to these facilities will inspire and inform the creative practice for the applicant. The program has a fee of $200 which is refundable if the artist wishes to donate an art work that is directly inspired by the residency experience. Donated art works will become part of the St Vincent’s Hospital Art Collection and be available online for public viewing.
The closing date for submissions is Tuesday 30th August 2016. The residency will be available between October and December, with dates confirmed with the artist upon selection. Those interested in applying may do so via the online form.
