Frequently asked questions

  • Who has access to the Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology?

Current Anatomy and Pathology students have regular access (with their student cards) between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Access to and from the museum is via swipe card only. Students’ cards will not allow them entry to or exit from the museum outside of these hours. Students risk being locked in the museum if they do not leave by 5.00pm.

Unauthorised entry to this museum is prohibited and failure to present an authorized student card or casual access card will result in you being asked to leave and the possibility of future access revoked. Similarly, if you allow access to someone who is not authorized to be in this area, you may have your own access revoked.

VCE groups and other groups working or studying related disciplines can arrange museum tours.  Similarly, entitled groups can arrange access through the museum curator. Other casual visitors can arrange access via the museum curator. Casual access is usually granted to students or visitors who have a legitimate study related purpose for visiting the museum.

  • Why is access restricted?

This is due to the sensitivity of the collection which predominantly consists of real human remains. These human remains are obtained through the Department of Anatomy and Physiology's Body Donor Program. These donors enable the advancement of medical science and appropriate respect must be shown at all times, therefore the museum is to be used for legitimate study and learning purposes.
